  • Overview

    Department of Mechanical Engineering started with the B.E. Programme in the year 2010-11. It was affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University. The first batch of Mechanical Engineering came out in 2013-14. Since then 5 batches have received their degrees. The department received Savitribai Phule Pune University approval in 2013-14 for 60 intakes admission to Direct Second Year Engineering, now we have total 120 intake seats for under graduate programme.

    Over the decades, there is an increasing demand for the mechanical engineers in core areas like manufacturing, robotics, automotive/transportation and air conditioning. Mechanical Engineering has interdisciplinary association with the areas like nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, environmental and bio-medical fields. Mechanical engineering can design and develop everything one thinks of as a machine – from bicycles to supersonic fighter jets. Mechanical Engineering plays most important role in the industrial growth. To meet the above requirements, the latest subjects like Industrial Fluid Power, Computational Fluid Dynamics, finite Element method, CAD/CAM and Energy Audit & Management are introduced into the curriculum of Mechanical Engineering. To cope up with these subjects practically, department has set well equipped & computerized laboratories like Advance Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Mechatronics, Industrial Hydraulics and Pneumatics, Dynamics of machinery, Theory of Machine, I.C. Engines, CAD/CAM Laboratory with Advanced software like AutoCAD, Ansys, PRO-E, MATLAB, Master-CAM, Catia V5R20 etc, which are utilized by undergraduate students for conducting experiments.     • Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
    • Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
    • Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

Department has signed MoUs with Prolific Systems & Technologies, Pune and Qualden Technology Pune. Prolific Systems & Technologies is pioneer in industrial automation training since 1997. Qualden Technology Pune organization working in the field of Robotics and automation. These organizations conduct workshops and seminars for the student’s benefit. The department has a vision to become a center of excellence in the field of Mechanical Engineering. Departmental strength of highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty along with creative students are working hard to achieve this goal.

    Department has Yantra lab set up of IIT Bombay which provides the platform for the students to develop their innovative project ideas. A high degree of professionalism is inducted to the students through the student chapters of professional association such as Indian Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE). Students are encouraged to participate in Group discussion, Technical Quiz, Aptitude Test under the MESA and also Roborace, Paperpresentation and CAD venture are effectively conducted.   • Career Scope

    Mechanical engineering is the evergreen branch among all other branches of engineering. They deal with the concepts of mechanics, thermodynamics, robotics, kinematics, structural mechanics, fluid mechanics, power sector, refrigeration, air conditioning sector and aerospace. There is a great scope of mechanical engineering now-a-days. It is expanding beyond its boundaries and more of interdisciplinary in nature. It is one of the oldest branches of engineering. This field of engineering is the broadest of all engineering fields, job prospects on offer for skilled engineer are plenty and unending. They can find employment in both government as well as private sector. Mechanical engineers are required to design, test, manufacture, install, operate and maintain a wide array of machines and mechanical systems that are used in industries. There is a great scope of job avenues for mechanical engineers in India.

    • Aerospace industry- In aerospace industry mechanical engineers are used to do research, design, manufacture, operate and maintain the aircrafts.
    • Automotive industry- In automotive industry mechanical engineers are used to do designing, manufacturing, distributes and perform marketing of motor vehicles.
    • Chemical industry- In chemical industry, they covers the oil companies, chemical manufactures and the business to build new chemical plants or to develop new process technologies.
    • Construction industry- In this field of industry the role of mechanical engineer is todesign and build the infrastructure and buildings and its services like heating and ventilation.
    • Defence industry- In defence industry, they provide the equipments and provide support and services to the armed forces.
    • Electronics industry- In this field of industry,the role of mechanical engineers is to design and manufacture components and complete equipments for sectors from automotive and the military.
    • Marine industry- In this field of industry, the role of mechanical engineer is to develop the vessels and help to operate them.
    • Material and metal industry- In this field of industry, mechanical engineer performs the activities which include developing new material and manufacturing components or end products.
